The diamond-shaped National Library of Belarus

Destination guide

Minsk

Wide boulevards, mid-century grandeur, and a creative scene nobody warned you about.

πŸ“ Capital region πŸš† You're here β€” airport is 40 min from the centre πŸ•’ 2–3 days

Minsk confounds expectations. Yes, it's a showcase of monumental Soviet planning β€” Independence Avenue is one of the most complete mid-century ensembles anywhere β€” but it's also a city of third-wave coffee, street-art courtyards, cocktail bars in old factories and parks that go on forever. It's clean, walkable, cheap and safe-feeling in a way that surprises almost every first-time visitor.

Don't miss

Getting there

Minsk National Airport (MSQ) is ~40 minutes from the centre by bus, train or taxi. All intercity trains radiate from the central station, itself a short walk from Independence Avenue.

Eat & sleep

Sleep centrally between Upper Town and the station and you'll walk everywhere. Eat one traditional dinner (draniki, machanka), one modern-Belarusian tasting menu, and one market breakfast at Komarovka.
